Speaking of morning programs, Bob Keeshan, who has spent 32 years keeping kids entertained on morning TV as Captain Kangaroo, has come out strongly for sending unsupervised children to day-care centers, maintaining the move could help keep them out of prison as adults. “It costs $35,000 a year to keep someone behind bars. Wouldn’t it have been more sensible to spend a few thousand dollars a year the first seven or eight years of that person’s life? We’d have developed a taxpayer, not a criminal,” Keeshan said this week at a seminar on day care in Knoxville, Tenn.
