34 Die in India Storms

BANGALORE, India —
Storms lashing southeast India’s rice bowl state of Andhra Pradesh have killed at least 34 people, damaged 12,000 homes and flattened crops, government officials said Thursday. Winds of more than 62 m.p.h. have battered the coast near the town of Nellore since Tuesday and winds off the Bay of Bengal dumped more than 20 inches of rain in less than 24 hours.
