UniCare Financial Corp. management has been authorized by the board to buy back up to 200,000 shares of the 4 million shares of common stock outstanding. Since the stock market crash Oct. 19, dozens of companies throughout the country have been repurchasing shares at discounted prices. In Orange County, about 15 companies have announced buyback plans, including AFG Industries, Carl Karcher Enterprises, Eldorado Bancorp and Silicon Systems. Irvine-based UniCare, through its operating subsidiary, UniCare Insurance Co., writes workers’ compensation insurance in California.
