Press Conferences
The media complain that the President seldom has a news conference. They only have themselves to blame. All the networks define anything that happens at the White House as news, so the President is guaranteed news coverage by simply walking to his helicopter. Why should our next President or any future President hold a conference when he is guaranteed such national exposure?
If the TV networks used any normal criterion for newsworthy events at the White House, the absence of national coverage would rapidly cause the President to hold more conferences.
