Pros and Cons on California’s Mandatory Auto Insurance Law

Share

Bravo to the state Supreme Court for upholding mandatory automobile insurance. Unfortunately, for me the ruling came a little too late. Two months ago, I was rear-ended by someone who had no coverage. Thus, my insurance company had to pay for the damage, and guess who’s rates are going to be doubled at renewal time?

I fail to understand why those of us who are responsible enough to carry car insurance should have to bear the burden for those who are not as responsible. This is particularly true when the accident clearly is the other driver’s fault. This ruling prevents this type of miscarriage of justice from happening in the future.

When drivers set out to buy a car, they should set enough money aside for the car, gasoline and insurance. If they cannot afford the various subsidiaries, then they cannot afford the car.
