Local News in Brief : Raiders Accord Urged

Share

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores on Friday introduced a resolution urging the Coliseum Commission “to work closely with the Raiders and do everything possible to reach an agreement which could convince the Raiders to remain at the Coliseum” rather than move to Irwindale. The resolution will be considered by the council next week.

Flores said there is an opportunity for new negotiations in light of the failure of Irwindale to meet an initial Nov. 4 deadline for providing the land and financing for the move. She suggested that the commission use a $19.6-million damage award received this week from the National Football League to make stadium renovations that would satisfy the Raiders.

Meanwhile, the Irwindale City Council on Thursday night appropriated $280,000 to hire two law firms, based in Chicago and Washington, D.C., to represent the city in its legal battle to consummate the Raider deal, which has been delayed by a court injunction.
