Tipper Gore, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Albert Gore Jr., says she is not backing down from her campaign against obscene rock lyrics and movies in the aftermath of a meeting with entertainment industry executives in Los Angeles.

“The meeting (with the executives last week) did entail a very lively exchange of ideas,” she said. “I stated my position, and I stated my opposition to censorship. That was the primary reason that I went.” Her remarks were reported in the Friday editions of the Chattanooga Times.

Mrs. Gore is a co-founder of a Washington group, The Parents Music Resource Center, and the author of a book, “Raising PG Kids in an X-Rated Society.” She has proposed warning labels for records with “explicit” lyrics and testified at a 1985 Senate committee hearing on obscenity in music, film and television.
