ATHENS — A man thought to have died of complications after an appendectomy 14 years ago was apparently killed by a pair of surgical scissors that the operating doctor left inside his body, a newspaper said Sunday.
Christos Sotiropoulos, 28, died two weeks after a 1973 operation in a central Athens hospital, the Athens daily Vradiny reported.
The newspaper said his death was officially attributed to post-surgical complications. But the real cause was discovered Saturday, when his family found the scissors as it was moving his remains to another grave site, the paper said.
