Roundup : UC Irvine Beats USC in Water Polo, 12-6

Dan Smoot scored four goals to lead third-ranked UC Irvine over second-ranked USC, 12-6, in a nonconference water polo match Sunday at Heritage Park in Irvine.
The Anteaters, who are 2-1 against the Trojans this season, never trailed, securing a 12-5 lead late in the fourth quarter. Tony Bell helped Irvine (14-7) with three goals; Mike Doting added two, and goalkeeper Chris Duplanty had eight saves.
The Trojans (17-7) were led by Rob Carver with four goals.
In Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. men’s soccer:
Nevada Las Vegas 2, UC Irvine 0--Simon Keith and Shawn Ritchie scored to lead the 15th-ranked Rebels (13-5, 8-2) at Las Vegas. Mike Gartlan had six saves for the Anteaters (6-13, 3-8).
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s soccer:
Cal State Northridge 5, Chapman 0--Joey Kirk scored one goal--his 30th of the season--and had three assists to lead the Matadors (17-1-1, 9-0-1), the top-ranked team in Division II, at Northridge. Freshman goalkeeper Mark Tyssee had five saves in his first game for the Panthers (9-9-2, 4-5-1).
