Local News in Brief : Radar System Put to Test

Share

The Pasadena Police Department has scheduled for Thursday the start of its one-month test of a controversial photographic radar device.

The device can snap up to 260 photos per hour of vehicles traveling faster than the speed limit. The photographs include the time of the violation, the date, the location, the vehicle’s license plate number and the driver’s face.

Under normal use, citations will be mailed to the registered owners of the cars. But during the 30-day test period, after which a decision will be made on whether to continue using the device, the department will only issue warnings--and will ask speeders their opinion about the radar system.
