The State : Nuclear Sirens in False Alarm

Share

Hundreds of San Luis Obispo County residents were startled by an accidental sounding of sirens intended to warn of an accident at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. The warning sirens wailed in Morro Bay, Los Osos and parts of San Luis Obispo, said sheriff’s Sgt. Maurice Lane. Lane said workers accidentally tripped the wrong switches during a twice-weekly “silent test.” He added, “We got millions of calls. Well, that’s an exaggeration. But the phones were ringing. A lot of people were complaining and rightly so.”
