La Habra Heights : Road Widening Favored

Share

A majority of La Habra Heights residents answering a city survey about the proposed rebuilding of Hacienda Boulevard favor widening the road’s right of way to allow eventual construction of four lanes.

Of the 630 people responding to the questionnaire, 61% support a proposal to straighten the boulevard’s two major curves and create a four-lane right of way. Because the reconstruction project would bring the road up to state standards, it would be funded by the county. City Manager Robert Gutierrez said only 5% of the respondents indicated they would support a local bond issue to finance reconstruction to less rigorous standards, retaining the semi-rural character of the road.

Twenty-nine percent of those answering prefer to leave the twisting highway as it is. The majority oppose hiring a special sheriff’s unit to patrol the accident-prone thoroughfare.
