Judge Ginsburg Withdraws

Share

Critics of Ginsburg’s nomination variously cited his lack of judicial experience or history of decisions, and, finally, his admitted use of marijuana.

I heard no mention, however, of what seems to me the most important item:

On Nov. 8, The Times devoted 176-column inches to the impact of government funding cuts on prenatal care in Los Angeles County, the resulting cost of neonatal care, and possible infant mortality.

In the same edition, five lines of a feature on Ginsburg’s life stated, “And without any publicity, his office squelched a planned Public Health Service study of the impact of federal budget cuts on infant mortality.”

To many--conservatives and liberals alike--Ginsburg’s use of marijuana made him seem human. But perhaps it is his humanity that should have been discussed.
