Judge Ginsburg Withdraws

Share

It is a relief to learn that Douglas H. Ginsburg has withdrawn his name as a Supreme Court nominee. Not because he had very little courtroom experience, not because of involvement in a cable television case when he had stock in a cable television company, not because he used marijuana in the past, but because he was the Supreme Court choice of Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III, the greatest threat we have to American civil liberties. You can wager that some of Ginsburg’s ideas would coincide with Meese’s. Two incidents seem to bear this out. On one occasion Ginsburg and his aides in the Office of Management and Budget had to decide on the value of a human life exposed to asbestos. They callously calculated that a human life should be worth $22,500. On another occasion Ginsburg cynically contended that his effort to reduce government regulation of business was an effort on his part to help the poor and the disadvantaged.

Ginsburg said he is sorry he won’t have a chance to share his views of justice with the American people. We are happy he won’t have that chance.
