A transient suspected of being the “Fairfax Robber,” who has committed 15 bank robberies in the Wilshire and Hollywood areas in less than a month, was arrested Wednesday on a residential street, Los Angeles police said.

Steve Elfer, 30, allegedly committed the 15th robbery Wednesday morning at the Home Savings & Loan Assn. branch at 835 Wilshire Blvd., making an oral demand from a teller and walking out with a bag of cash, Detective Bruce Meyer said. “He found one of the only banks open on Veterans Day,” Meyer said.

About an hour later, Elfer was arrested without incident while walking along Argyle Avenue in Hollywood, Meyer said.
