Local News in Brief : Appraisal Contract OKd
Hermosa Beach will contract with George Hamilton Jones Inc. to appraise the Santa Fe railroad right of way for possible purchase by the city, the City Council decided Tuesday.
City officials have met with Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway officials for preliminary negotiations toward acquiring the 20-acre 100-foot-wide strip that bisects the city.
The firm will charge about $10,000, billing by the hour, to research comparable sales and uses permitted on the property that is zoned open space. The city appropriated $12,500 from the Parks and Recreation Fund for the 2 1/2-month project, which will begin in January.
