Handgun Bill: Bad Target
On Nov. 3 you published another of Art Buchwald’s biting and sarcastic commentaries. “Shooting Down a Plastic Handgun Bill” was on the plastic handgun control bill and the fact that the Department of Justice changed from a position for the bill to one against it.
However, the Department of Justice did not reverse its position because of bribes or other pressures from the National Rifle Assn. as Buchwald implies, but because of the pure illogic of the bill.
There is not now, and probably never will be, a handgun made solely of plastic. Consequently, metal detectors and X-ray machines in airports and other high-security locations can still detect these weapons.
