Homicide detectives were investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found Saturday lying in a northbound lane of the Golden State Freeway north of Castaic, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

A passing motorist found the victim, estimated to be in his early 20s, at 5 a.m. in the freeway’s slow lane about a mile south of the Templin Highway exit, Deputy Roger Hom said.

The cause of death was uncertain pending an autopsy, but investigators “have some belief that the person might have been hit by a vehicle or run over by a vehicle,” Hom said.
