A federal appeals court said today that it will reconsider a ruling in June that ordered the lifting of a freeze on the assets of Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos in a suit by the Philippine government.

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals nullified a three-member panel’s decision in the Marcoses’ favor and referred the case to an 11-member panel of the court for a hearing at an unspecified date. The previous 2-1 ruling had included a declaration that the government of Corazon Aquino stood little chance of winning its suit. After the June decision, U.S. District Judge Mariana Pfaelzer said her freeze would stand while the Philippine government asked for reconsideration of the ruling.
