British Petroleum Co. shares traded heavily in Britain amid speculation about investors building a stake in the oil company. Newly issued partly paid BP’s shares topped the London Stock Exchange trading volumes, with over 274 million shares changing hands Tuesday after 250 million were traded Monday. Speculation about the buildup of a stake in the company helped boost BP partly paid shares 10.5 cents to $1.50 in late trading, well above the British government’s $1.20 support price.
