Local News in Brief : Huntington Beach : Three Arrested in Attempted Robbery
Police arrested two men and a woman on suspicion of attempted robbery after robbers used a ruse to force their way into a residence early Tuesday.
The attack occurred at 12:10 a.m. in an apartment complex near Pacific Coast Highway and Warner Avenue. The victim, Bradley Stephens, 32, a set designer, suffered minor knife cuts and was treated and released at Pacifica Community Hospital in Huntington Beach.
The three suspects, Michael Sullivan, 47, of San Pedro; his wife, Sally Sullivan, 50, and Clay Albert Allen, 48, of Long Beach remained in the Huntington Beach City Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $50,000 bond each.
According to Huntington Beach Police Lt. Jack Reinholtz, a woman knocked on Stephens’ door, yelling that her husband had just backed into Stephens’ Porsche. When Stephens stepped outside to investigate, the two men jumped him with knives and pushed him back into the apartment.
Neighbors heard Stephens’ screams and called police. Officers pulled Stephens out of the struggle, but the robbers slammed the door shut, refusing to come outside.
The suspects surrendered after police threatened to break in with loaded weapons, Reinholtz said.
