Rappe Named to Bench
Curtis B. Rappe of Manhattan Beach, an assistant U.S. attorney since 1972, was appointed Tuesday to the Los Angeles County Superior Court by Gov. George Deukmejian.
Rappe, 47, replaces Judge Charles H. Older, who has retired. Older, appointed to the bench in 1967 by then-Gov. Ronald Reagan, presided over the trial of convicted mass murderer Charles Manson.
A graduate of Stanford University and USC, where he received his law degree, Rappe served as a Ventura County deputy district attorney from 1966 to 1972.
As an assistant U.S. attorney, Rappe has spent the last eight years prosecuting major fraud cases.
There are 224 Superior Court judges countywide. A Superior Court judge earns $81,505 annually.
