The ninth-ranked UCLA men’s soccer team, a 1-0 winner over Fresno State last week in a first-round NCAA playoff match, will be at Nevada Las Vegas on Sunday for the Far West Regional championship match.

The Bruins are 14-6-1. Nevada Las Vegas, a 1-0 winner over San Francisco in its playoff opener, is ranked second behind UCLA in the Far West. The Rebels are 14-5.

Peter Pelle scored the Bruins’ goal against Fresno State on an assist from Bill Thompson. Last year UCLA lost in the second round of the playoffs to the Bulldogs, who halted the Bruins’ 39-game unbeaten streak.

In September, UCLA defeated Nevada Las Vegas, 2-0, getting goals from Jeff Hooker and Shaun Del Grande. Steve Black assisted on both scores.

UCLA leads the series with the Rebels, 8-2-1. After a 1-0 playoff win over the Rebels in 1985, the Bruins went on to win the NCAA championship, defeating American University in eight overtimes.

Shannon Frowiss, a 6-1 senior basketball forward at Santa Barbara High School, and Susan Tousey, a 6-2 senior center at Brea Olinda High in Brea, have signed letters of intent with Pepperdine.

Frowiss was named a fourth-team All-American by Street and Smith magazine after she averaged 17.9 points and 10 rebounds a game last season. Twice named to All-Orange League teams, Tousey averaged 15.5 points and 6.7 rebounds last season.
