Lorch Elected Mayor: A divided City Council this week elected Councilman Thomas Lorch as the city’s new mayor. He replaces Holly Ann Veale, who had served in the post for one year. Councilmen Robert D. Limberg and William C. Mecham cast the dissenting votes in the 3-2 decision. Councilman Brian J. Rice was elected mayor pro tem. Lorch and Rice were elected to the council in 1986 while running on a platform of managed growth. Veale also was elected in 1986.
