Richard H. Ruch was elected chief executive and chairman of the executive committee of office furniture system manufacturer Herman Miller Inc., Zeeland, Mich. As CEO, Ruch replaces Max O. De Pree, who announced his plans to retire as CEO after eight years in that position. De Pree continues as chairman. Edward R. Simon Jr., president and chief operating officer, was elected to the board.

Ruch’s appointment is effective Jan. 1. Prior to being named CEO, Ruch served as senior vice president, chief financial officer and a director.
