A University of California, Berkeley, housing board has kicked 182 students out of a student housing co-op in the largest campus eviction in the 50 years since the co-ops were formed. The eviction of the residents of Berkeley’s Barrington Hall, plagued by reports of noisy goings-on and drug use, was approved by the 30-student housing board after more than four hours of debate. Neighborhood complaints about the rowdy behavior of co-op residents came to a head in September, when seven people required medical treatment after drinking LSD-laced punch at a Barrington party. One of the drugged students tried to walk off the roof of a three-story building. Barrington Hall was put on three years’ probation after revelations that dozens of residents and non-residents were selling or using heroin there. The students have until the end of the school year to move out.
