COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Columbia Can’t Hold On, Loses 41st Straight

Quarterback Danny Clark scored on an 11-yard run with 47 seconds left as Brown came from 10 points down in the final six minutes to extend Columbia’s National Collegiate Athletic Assn. record losing streak to 41 games with a 19-16 Ivy League victory Saturday.

The Bruins (7-3 overall, 5-3 in league) trailed, 16-6, midway through the fourth quarter, but Clark drove them 80 yards in 8 plays, capping the drive with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Lane Wood with 5:48 left.

Columbia (0-10, 0-8) punted on its next possession, and Brown took over on its 39 with 3:51 remaining. The Bruins drove to the Columbia 11, where they fumbled but recovered.

On the next play, Clark swept right end for the winning score on fourth and two.

Brown’s Walt Cataldo intercepted Dave Putelo’s pass in the closing seconds.

Columbia remained winless in 44 games since beating Yale on Oct. 15, 1983.
