A 7 1/2-mile dirt road was opened over the weekend to allow the public a glimpse of snow geese flying south from the Arctic, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials said.

The road at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge has been open to vehicles the last 14 years only from the Saturday before Thanksgiving to the Sunday after the holiday to protect the bird feeding grounds, officials said.
