- More good news for actors: Des McAnuff, artistic director of the La Jolla Playhouse, flew to the Soviet Union late last week, where he expects to meet with various Soviet theater artists.

The first thing on his agenda when he returns is an “Acting Shakespeare” workshop from 7-10 p.m. Dec. 2, organized by Patricia Elmore, artistic director of the San Diego Actors Studio. The workshop will give 10 actors an opportunity to work with McAnuff on monologues or scenes they have selected from seven plays, including “The Tempest” and “Macbeth.” Elmore, who will be one of the participants, will screen the applicants. The cost is $20 for both participants and observers.
