Duarte : Hitt Selected as Mayor
Councilman John Hitt has been selected mayor by his colleagues, replacing John Van Doren, who served 18 months. Terry Michaelis, who was elected to the council with Hitt in April, 1986, is the new mayor pro tem.
For the first time in Duarte’s 30-year history, no incumbents ran in the November election, so Tuesday was the first meeting for newly elected council members Ginny Joyce and John Fasana.
The council is considering having the mayor directly elected by the voters. A city staff report on elected mayors is expected to be discussed at the next council meeting, Dec. 8.
