A recount by the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder’s office has left Alberto M. Penalber still two votes short in his bid for a seat on the Lynwood City Council. Penalber requested the recount after finishing third among seven candidates for two seats on the council.

Penalber’s vote total did not change in Tuesday’s recount. Penalber received 924 votes while incumbent Councilman Robert Henning had 926. Louis Heine received the most votes with 1,336. Heine picked up three additional votes in the recount. Originally, he had finished with 1,333 votes, but received three additional absentee votes in the recount.

In a related matter, Rachel Chavez, who lost by eight votes in her bid for one of three seats on the Lynwood Unified School District board, has asked for a recount. The recount has been set for next Tuesday. Chavez finished fourth behind incumbent Thelma Williams. Williams had 945 votes to Chavez’s 937.
