Auto Brokers

The entire purpose of having the Department of Motor Vehicles is to protect consumers. By eliminating automobile brokers (Part I, Nov. 13) through an obscure interpretation of a regulation, the DMV is defrauding the consumer who will be forced to pay higher car prices by at least $1,000.

The responsibility for this economic disaster rests squarely on Gov. George Deukmejian and his appointee A. Del Pierce, DMV director. Next time you buy a car and the dealer will not negotiate with you, thank the governor. Deukmejian was advised of this problem a year ago and has done nothing. That is now much he cares about your pocketbook!

Automobile brokers fulfill vital roles for people who buy cars. They sell you the exact car that you choose and deliver it to you at substantial savings as compared to dealers’ prices.

I have purchased cars from dealers as well as from automobile brokers. Automobile brokers were prompt, courteous and truthful. Dealers tried to sell me cars loaded with accessories that hiked up the price and just what they had on the lot, rather than what I really wanted and needed.
