Local News in Brief : Almost Like Clockwork

About 15,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled onto Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades after a brief power outage Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles Board of Public Works said. The sewage was cleaned up by city crews and the beach was posted with warning signs by the county Department of Health Services.

The spill occurred after power was lost for 35 minutes at the South Pulga Canyon pumping station, which has been the source of other spills due to power outages this year.

A backup generator was installed recently on orders of Mayor Tom Bradley. But the generator requires an operator to flip it on, and the spill occurred before the operator arrived.
