A 34-year-old Anaheim man suspected of committing as many as 15 bank robberies throughout Orange County during the past year was arrested after a two-month police investigation, authorities said Thursday.

Ronald Scott Heiberg was taken into custody by Garden Grove investigators and Anaheim officers after a pursuit that ended in a crash in Stanton about midday Wednesday, Lt. Scott Hamilton said.

Hamilton said Heiberg had been sought for the last 18 months by state corrections officers for violation of parole and had been wanted by the FBI and “numerous” other Orange County law enforcement agencies for the last year.

Heiberg is a suspect in “a couple of bank robberies” in Garden Grove in recent months, he said.

Officers of Garden Grove’s Tactical Response Against Perpetrators unit had been developing information on Heiberg’s whereabouts for the last two months, tracing him to an Anaheim apartment building in the 3200 block of Cabot Street, Hamilton said.

On Wednesday, Garden Grove officers with the help of Anaheim police undercover detectives and Anaheim officers in marked patrol cars, staked out the apartment until Heiberg left in a vehicle, Hamilton said. Officers attempted to stop Heiberg, who raced away in his car. A pursuit ended a short time later at Beach Boulevard and Central Avenue in Stanton, when Heiberg crashed into a building near the intersection.

The suspect was treated for minor injuries before being booked into County Jail in Santa Ana, Hamilton said.
