County to Bask in ‘Leftovers’ From Holiday

Thanksgiving Day “leftovers” of sunny skies and warmer weather will give San Diegans more to be thankful for today, according to forecasters.

But that’s not all the good news. It turns out that a Pacific storm system that was expected to soak San Diegans this weekend had more bark than bite.

“The most we’ll see of that storm is partly cloudy skies and slightly lower temperatures beginning Saturday,” National Weather Service forecaster Dan Atkin said. “It’s not as strong as we suspected.”

“We’ve got a real weak low pressure out there, which has caused this storm to weaken dramatically,” according to Dan Bowman, a meteorologist at WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

Slightly Lower Temperatures

As this low-pressure center replaces a high-pressure system that has graced San Diego with clear skies the past few days, clouds will increase, lowering temperatures “only slightly,” Atkin said.

“By Sunday, partly cloudy skies should clear by early afternoon and temperatures will moderate,” Atkin said.

Coastal highs today will be from 69 to 74, with overnight lows from 46 to 51. High temperatures Saturday and Sunday will be 65 to 70, with lows from 45 to 53, Bowman said. Surf is expected to be 3 to 5 feet, and the ocean temperature is near 63 degrees.

Inland valley lows will drop to near-freezing temperatures this weekend in areas protected from the wind, Bowman said.

“People in parts of El Cajon, Escondido and Poway will have to really bundle up this weekend,” Bowman said.

High temperatures today will range from 70 to 75, with lows from 38 to 43. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 60s to middle 70s, with lows from 35 to 40.

Mountain highs will range from 40 to 50, with lows in the 25- to 35-degree range today through Sunday.

Deserts will have highs from 65 to 75 degrees and lows from 38 to 48.
