GM to Recall 1984 Fieros Because of Engine Fires

General Motors Corp. has announced that it will recall more than 136,000 1984 Pontiac Fieros because of engine-compartment fires and that it will reimburse owners for repairs paid for because of the condition.

GM said tests have shown that improper service procedures may cause the fires. It said modifications will be made when parts become available in mid-December.

The company said it is aware of 260 engine fires and about 10 minor injuries related to the condition.
