The county Local Agency Formation Commission on Wednesday is expected to decide on boundaries for the proposed city of Dana Point. Incorporation has been proposed for the communities of Dana Point and Laguna Niguel, but controversy has arisen over Laguna Niguel’s coastal strip. In a Nov. 3 advisory vote, residents of the strip decided by a nearly 2-1 margin that they would rather join the proposed city of Dana Point to the south than remain part of the effort to incorporate with inland portions of Laguna Niguel. Backers of Laguna Niguel’s cityhood effort say they want the coast to be part of the proposed city.

The decision on Dana Point’s boundaries was postponed from an earlier commission meeting. A decision on Laguna Niguel’s boundaries was postponed until May to allow financial feasibility studies to be completed.
