NCAA Water Polo Semifinals : USC Downs UCLA and Cal Beats Irvine

Keith Leggett scored two goals in overtime as USC defeated UCLA, 12-11, in a dramatic semifinal game of the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. water polo tournament Saturday night in Long Beach.

USC (22-7), which has never won the national title, will play top-seeded California tonight at 7:30 in the championship game.

California held off a late UC Irvine surge to defeat the Anteaters, 7-3. The Golden Bears (25-3), led by Pat Reid’s two goals, built a 5-0 lead before UCI rallied. UCI finished 19-9.

A crowd of 1,468 at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool saw Trojan goalie Kevin Stringer hold off the Bruins with 14 saves, including one on a penalty shot.

After blowing a 9-7 lead late in regulation, the Trojans never trailed in overtime as they beat UCLA for the fourth straight time this season.
