Man Talked Down Off Bridge
A man apparently bent on suicide was talked into coming down off the Vincent Thomas Bridge this morning after he wanted to smoke but found himself without any matches, Los Angeles police reported.
The 30-year-old man had climbed to a bridge tower 350 feet above the water sometime after 3 a.m., ignoring pleas from officers to come down, Capt. David Gascon said. He was apprehended about 90 minutes later when he climbed down to borrow a light from an officer. Police were investigating while the man was being evaluated for possible psychiatric problems.
