Local News in Brief : AIDS Care Expanded
Trustees of the Barlow Hospital in downtown Los Angeles have moved to set up an acute- and continuous-care treatment program for AIDS patients that will treat about 100 people a month, hospital AIDS coordinator Paul Gatto said Monday.
The hospital, which specializes in providing acute pulmonary treatment, now cares for about two AIDS patients per month, Gatto said. State and federal grant money has been lined up--but not yet formally approved--to help pay costs associated with the hospital’s new five-phase AIDS treatment plan, he said.
