Military investigators are still looking for two suspects in the stabbing death last week of a Marine at Camp Pendleton.

Lance Cpl. Christopher L. Gaines of the 1st Marine Division was assaulted Nov. 23 in a parking lot near an enlisted men’s club. Gaines was stabbed in the chest about 11:30 p.m. as he was getting out of his car, according to a base statement.

Gaines was taken to the base hospital, where he died the next morning.

The motive of the attack remains unclear.

The Naval Investigative Service is seeking two suspects, both of whom were said to have short, Marine-style haircuts.
