A $3.2-million, four-lane bridge, which has replaced a 60-year-old span over San Juan Creek at Camino Capistrano, was dedicated in ceremonies Tuesday afternoon.

Designed to carry up to 30,000 vehicles per day, the bridge, along with new traffic lights and road widening, is expected to minimize many of the slowdowns common on Camino Capistrano and at nearby intersections, caused by the bottle-necking effect of the old two-lane structure.

The dedication program, which was held several days after traffic had actually begun to use the new bridge, included music by the Capistrano Valley High School band and tables loaded with refreshments for the more than 100 people who attended. There were also brief talks by city and state officials, with Mayor Anthony Bland acting as master of ceremonies.
