Local News in Brief : Katz Won’t Run Again

Share

Santa Monica City Councilman Alan Katz has announced that he will not run for reelection next year in order to devote more time to Lt. Gov. Leo McCarthy’s campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Katz, who is McCarthy’s chief of staff, said he preferred to use his spare time working on McCarthy’s campaign rather than running his own campaign for City Council.

“My workload with the lieutenant governor’s office and serving on the City Council is such that I don’t have time to advise the Senate campaign and run my own campaign,” Katz said.

Katz, 34, is the lone independent on the seven-member City Council, often serving as a mediator between the council’s two political factions.
