Lisbeth J. Vincent, associate professor of special education at the University of Wisconsin, has been named to fill the Matthew J. Guglielmo Chair in Mental Retardation at California State University, Los Angeles. College spokesmen said the chair is the first in the nation to be endowed for the study of mental retardation.

Vincent will teach classes in special education and rehabilitation psychology, consult with graduate students and conduct seminars. Gary A. Best, head of Cal State’s division of special education, said Vincent is “one of the country’s leading experts in early childhood education.”

The Guglielmo professorship, which will continue through spring 1988 semester, was named for a former vice president of The Broadway who has worked to bring problems of the mentally disabled to public attention. The Broadway and friends of Guglielmo contributed to the chair.
