Police served noticed Thursday that they are cracking down on merchants in Brea and Yorba Linda who sell alcoholic beverages to minors, adding that two Yorba Linda stores already have been cited for selling beer to an undercover police cadet.

Clerks at Casa de Liquor in the 18500 block of Yorba Linda Boulevard in Yorba Linda and the 7-Eleven store in the 17400 block of Imperial Highway, were cited for selling beer to the 18-year-old woman cadet on Wednesday, Brea Police Sgt. Michael Messin said. Messina heads the “sales to minors” campaign that is being conducted by the Brea Police Department, which also patrols Yorba Linda.

On Wednesday, the 18-year-old cadet was kept under surveillance by two Brea detectives as she tried to buy alcoholic beverages at nine convenience and liquor stores in the two cities, Messina said.

Clerks at seven of the stores refused to sell liquor to the young woman when she produced her driver’s license showing that she is three years under the legal age to buy alcoholic beverages, Messina said.

The cited clerks will have to appear in North Orange County Municipal Court, Messina said. The violations also are being reported to the state Alcohol and Beverage Control Commission for possible sanctions.
