Los Angeles County received funds for work on two bikeways: $160,000 to extend the Laguna Dominguez off-street bike path half a mile from 120th Street to El Segundo Boulevard along the Hawthorne-Gardena border, and $40,000 to maintain the South Bay Bikeway, which runs from California Avenue in Santa Monica to Torrance Beach Park in Torrance.

All projects are to be completed by July.

The commission annually allocates funds for bikeway and pedestrian projects, which meet a variety of requirements, including safety, extending the current regional bicycle system and encouraging people to use bikeways more.

A total of $3.6 million was awarded by the commission for similar projects throughout the county.
