Air turbulence tossed about a China Airlines Boeing 747 jumbo jet “like a small boat in a rough sea” during a flight from Los Angeles to Taiwan, an airline spokesman said. Nine of the 376 passengers were injured and eight were hospitalized in Taipei for observation. The plane hit the clear-air turbulence at 35,000 feet about four hours before landing.
