Shasta County supervisors are being sued for closing Shasta General Hospital and allegedly violating a court order to maintain health care services for the poor.

Legal Services of Northern California filed the suit Friday, alleging the county Board of Supervisors failed to provide alternative outpatient services or notify other health care facilities of the hospital’s October closure.

A hearing has been scheduled Dec. 22 in Shasta County Superior Court to show cause why supervisors should not be held in contempt for allegedly failing to comply with terms of the Oct. 29 order.

Legal Services spokeswoman Cindy Babby said the complaint is designed to force county supervisors to reopen Shasta General’s weekend clinic for indigent outpatients.
