Norwalk : Contract Review Ordered

Share

In one of its first actions, the new board of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District has directed its attorneys to check the legality of Supt. Bruce Newlin’s recently approved district contract. Passed by the board just before three incumbents stepped down, the contract includes a number of new clauses providing Newlin with legal protection in case he clashes with the new board.

Attorneys will review the contract’s language, as well as the manner in which the document was approved. New board members say there is a question of whether the old board fully adhered to the requirements of the Brown Act, the state’s open-meeting law, when it acted on the contract.

In other action this week, the board unanimously elected Jesse Luera president and William White vice president.
