Local News in Brief : AIDS Initiative Decried

Share

Mayor Tom Bradley and the Los Angeles City Council voiced opposition Tuesday to the latest ballot measure by California followers of political extremist Lyndon LaRouche.

The initiative, which would force doctors and health officials to impose severe controls on AIDS patients and carriers of the virus, has qualified for the June, 1988, ballot. It is nearly identical to Proposition 64, the LaRouche-inspired initiative defeated last year.

On Tuesday the Council voted 13 to 0 to oppose the new initiative. Before the vote, Bradley and several council members denounced LaRouche at a City Hall press conference.
